We all know that Love is one of the most powerful aspects that drives our existences and keeps us going and gives us hope as human beings. Almost any story that is a best seller will include love and just listen to the radio and music in general, it's about this strong feeling of love we have towards each other or things we are thankful for. We know the greatest commandments in the bible tell us to love. We know love covers a multitude of sins. We know it's better to love and mess up than not love at all and not mess up. We know that without love we are nothing. So what else is left? I'll hit up just a couple more verse to finalize up the Fundamentals - Law of Love section of this site.
Here are two aspects about God that give us a better understanding of who He is.
Psalms 100:5 "For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations." and
1 John 4:8 "Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is Love"
Every aspect of every teaching on what is good and what it means to know this good God involves Love. Love is the glue that keeps this world together. God programmed existence to understand that Love is what makes everything worth it. It's who God is, as 1 John 4:8 says "God is Love."
We also know from John 4:24 that "God is Spirit." The physical world around us just is. The spiritual world around us is different in that we learn mental understandings of thought, that we have tied to emotions to in a deeper sense of meaning and understanding. Not an easy concept to explain, but what God is trying to teach us right now while living in a physical world with so many possesions and nice things we can aquire through money and work, is that it's not about the physical stuff that just is - it's about the spiritual meanings behind existence.
If God is Spirit, then lets look at aspects of what His spirit is. This is one of the most important things to memorize if you are wanting to be a legit follower of Jesus. The memorization to learn are the "Fruit of the Spirit." Of course the first fruit of the spirit is referenced is the most important - LOVE and all the following fruit's (or good aspects) of the spirit are tied together in perfect harmony with Love. This verse below is so important, because these are truths the Holy Spirit is teaching to us in our daily lives. You have to try and remember these to help you strive to get better in each category.
Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the spirit is Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, Self-Control; against such things there is no law."
When your spirit inside you feels out of whack, when your angry or upset remember these things to calm you down. Remember Peace is a fruit, you are to strive for kindness and gentleness, try and live in and share joy with others. Memorizing these will only allow you to fully Love more and when you strive for these things, you can do no wrong.
If God is Love, and God is Spirit, and Love is a fruit of the Spirit then we know that they all go hand in hand. Be in this spirit of Love! It will give you peace and joy and to be patience, to show kindness and goodness, you will be gentle and faithful and strive for better self-control. Then you will be activated to start Loving yourself and others even better than ever before!
If you try and connect aspects on what the "Fruit of the Spirit" are with the well known verse in 1 Corinthians 13 about love, you see how everything goes hand in hand when you are acting in the spirit of love. I'll show a portion of the Corinthians verse below so you can compare the simularities.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 "Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things"
Love is much more complicated than we often make it. It isn't this simple concept that is just a warm mushy feeling you get when your crushin or in love with a spouse, it's a word that requires action and commitment as indicated in the verses above. It's not always easy to avoid being arrogant and rude to others, it's not always easy to be patient or kind. Sometimes it's easy to rejoice at wrongdoing and cheer for things that aren't truthful, but you have to remember that to really know Love you have to sacrifice these desires and strive for the meaning of the word. Hence Love is an action word and it requires commitment.
Okay I'll now write my favorite verse, and it includes the word Love and greater and talks about the greatest way you can do the greatest thing (which is Love). 1 John 15: v13 & 14 below.
1 John 15:13 "Greater Love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends."
The ultimate thing we can do is look to make friends with anyone, even that stranger and build them up in Love. That's the ultimate teaching on what Jesus did for us, because he plans to set things up in heaven where we are his friends for all existence to come. The verse the ends with;
1 John 15:14 "You are my friends if you do what I command you."
Jesus commanding us to love him through obeying him, means we are to follow this greatest teaching ourselves by looking to love people and build them up to the best of our ability. When you make life about others, your life becomes bigger because more people want to be apart of it with you.
